Want a Free .com.PH domain name?
249 words | Last Updated: May 10, 2006 |
If you want a free .com.PH domain name (value: US$70 good for two years), check out J. Angelo Racoma's Why .com.PH post.
Such domain names will be given free to those interested in actually using the name. If you're interested in creating a regularly updated web site that is useful, informative or entertaining enough to grow an audience, then please check out Angelo's offer of a free domain and hosting for one year.
"No cost, no ads, no catches."
Perhaps the catch would be: what happens to the content you've posted after that one year? What if you've only managed to create posts good for one year and decided you didn't want to blog anymore?
Even at just one post per week, that's 52 posts.
Are you willing to continue even if the free offer ends after 12 months? If you're not willing to continue or you're not willing to pay $35/year for the .com.ph domain name and X pesos monthly for the hosting, are you willing to let go of your 52 articles?
Even if you transfer your articles to Blogspot.com or Wordpress.com, in the eyes of the search engine your articles first appeared in your .com.ph site. That means your transfered articles will just be considered duplicates.
Take the offer if:
1. You're willing to commit to building your .com.ph brand or site.
2. You're willing to shoulder future domain name and hosting costs.

"Want a Free .com.PH domain name?"

[...] Recently, I’ve been explaining that the .com.ph domain and web hosting would be free for at least a year. People have been picking up on the idea (i.e., Manuel, Yuga, Erwin, Raymond) and some are quite concerned about sustainability and continuum, in that a user might be expected to pay up in the second year. Let me clarify that it would be for at least a year, and the deal will not necessarily end there. [...]
Thanks for the mention, Manuel. Let me clarify a few things--I think a link to a post on The J Spot would do the trick.
My site was supposed to pingback/trackback your site, but I guess something's not working right.
Cheers.
J
I don't know why the Trackback triggered comment moderation, J.
I also wonder how you were able to do a trackback, because for some reason the trackback links don't appear, and htaccess modifications aren't made (even if the file is chmoded 666)
Manuel, it's actually a ping-back, something unique (as far as i know) to wordpress. So no need to indicate trackback URLs--it's automatic, as long as I link to a static page on your site from my WP blog, and as long as your static page (or site) supports inbound pingbacks.
Thanks for the ping-back info, J! Looks like the commenting feature (without overly strict moderation) is now working.
I was looking to buy a domain name for our new Philippine service business. When I read on the net that to get a ".PH" extension-THE AVERAGE COST WAS $70.00usd FOR 2 YEARS REGISTRATION. The AVERAGE cost on the internet is about $9.00usd for a domain name. YOU ARE REALLY KILLING YOUR OWN LOCAL INDUSTRY-COMPATABLE WITH THE LOCAL ECONOMY, AND SHOULD BE COMPETITIVE WITH INTERNATIONAL DOMAIN NAME PRICES. I won't buy a "DotPH" extension EVER! We just chose a different domain name for ouir business. "DotPH" is really taking advantage of the public-and killing their own local market wth $70.00. I'm discusted.
[From Manuel] I hear you. I also wish .ph domain names would also cost as much as .com domain names. When the dotcom counterpart has already been registered, I've no choice but to go for the .com.ph name. Perhaps someday, when demand for .com.ph names gets high enough, prices will go down.
hello sir, how i would like to buy a domain? how i am going to pay them? i dont know on how to pay for the domain.. please help i'm going to buy a domain in the website nokiahost.com thank you sir i hope you will reply my comments...
Hi Jessie, I couldn't find the page in Nokiahost.com that allows you to buy domain names. From what I've seen, the domain name is free if you host with them. They also have several payment alternatives.
(Please get the complete terms for the domain name. For example, what happens after one year? Will it still be free? If not, how much will domain name renewal cost? Who will be the registered owner of the free domain name?)
If all you want is a domain name (no webhosting), you can get your .com.ph domain name at Domains.ph, and they too have different payment alternatives.
If you want a .com or .net domain name, you can go to various domain name registrars such as NameCheap.com, although payment is usually done online with the help of a credit card.
Domain name purchases should be affordable now in this era and in Philippines. We have a lot hosting companies around and most of them offer above the standard price for domain purchases.
That is why, we ate Vertito.com started our own. We offer free domain for life with our selected free domain for life hosting plans. These domains would be paid by us and even renewed by us for you to sign up with us. Straight to the point, if you wish to manage the free domain, it would be after 12 months of hosting with us,which thereafter, would not be covered for renewal by us since you have left our hosting platforms.
Our most affordable plans starts at 50 peso per month or $1 hosting with 1GB/10GB space/bandwidth hosting offer. We have monthly discount coupons and a lot of freebies with risk-free 30-day money back guarantee and 99.9% uptime guarantee. Try us today.
Please delete my previous comment and approve this one. I caught a misspelling.
In the sense of full disclosure I would say if you are getting a single domain name then this is a 'great' deal. Let me reemphasize that I haven't seen a better deal out there from just a "what is offered" in features marketed.
Two points I would make about my above statement:
- I haven't used the service so I can't vouch for their up time or their technical service.
- If you know what a Reseller plan is, and want one, then send me a response back and I can offer you other advice/direction.
Hello Manuel,
It's ok if you don't want to approve this comment. However regarding this article I'd like to see your support of the .ph market by seeing if your friend might help you get http://www.manuelviloria.com.ph/ or http://www.manuelviloria.ph/ or both.
If you don't already know how to "park" domains I would be happy to share that with you. I too think the .ph market needs to be jump started and if your friend J. Angelo Racoma has the resources I will certainly do my best to help.
Thanks, Timothy. I do support the .ph market and have in fact registered several domain names with the .com.ph name extension. I've also developed websites on those internet virtual properties (because I'm not a great fan of simply parking domain names).
