If you're trying to make money online with the help of AdSense, you'll need to be patient. You'll also need to be flexible, in terms of income sources, because it is all to easy to get discouraged when the dollars don't seem to add up quickly.
The trick is to learn to think outside the bucks. The AdSense bucks, that is.
Let's revisit the story of the two year-old blog...
If you recall the previous post called Two Years After AdSense, you'll wonder why a blogger patiently wrote practically every single day for two years, only to end up earning $2 a day from AdSense.
Surely the joy of writing is not the only thing that kept the blogger going, right?
Okay... here's the rest of the story about what got that blogger excited about this entire internet thing.
I asked the blogger why she likes blogging, even if her AdSense earnings (at that time) were only $0.50 a day (during the first 8 months of her blog's existence). And here are the things she mentioned:
- I'm not focused on AdSense anyway. If I don't earn, that's okay. If I earn... WOW!
- I like to write.
- I'm amazed that I'm able to learn techie stuff.
- I enjoy meeting other bloggers. (in real life)
- It's great to make new friends.
Yes, I know that you're probably wondering if you can earn a 5- or 6-figure income from AdSense. And you're most likely asking what this post has to do with making money online. Well...
I touched base again with the patient blogger and asked her what she was doing with her life. A lot, apparently. She has enough projects outside the world of computers to allow her time for only one post in her blog each day.
Did you catch that? The computer did not dominate her time. She would spend a whole lot of time away from her computer. She met with people, spoke with them on the phone, and even attended various events... with lots of people.
These people eventually found out about her blog, and even visited regularly. Some of these people also turned out to be bloggers. And yes, they blogged about Ms. Patient Blogger.
So, how did she think outside the AdSense bucks?
Her blog did not focus on AdSense. She wrote about things in her life, particularly those which relate to other fellow consumers and shoppers. For example, if she ate in a restaurant, she would post a review.
She also talked about her offline business. In a soft-sell way, that is.
It wasn't a case of "this is my business... blah blah... buy this... blah blah..." It was more along the lines of: "There's this event... it's about... and if you're interested, please let me know..."
And boy, did people come. Not just people who read her blog regularly. Even people who do not read blogs at all. Yes, word-of-mouse marketing does work! (There are some people who will email their friends about your blog or your projects, and these emails get forwarded from one friend to another and... well, you get the picture.)
Show Me The Money
Thank you for patiently reading this story, so let's cut to the chase. What did she experience outside of AdSense?
US$4,000 in net profits, just from from one project, in two months.
That's what Ms. Patient Blogger made. Net profits, mind you.
And her $25/mo (in Host4Profit webhosting fees) blog contributed significantly towards achieving that. Her e-commerce miracle of a web site has inspired her to keep thinking outside the box, and she is currently expanding her offline business.
She continues to make one post a day in her blog. And her Adsense earnings continue to climb, which means her web hosting and domain name costs are more than covered by AdSense.
(And if she includes certain topics in her ONE blog, I wouldn't be surprised if her daily AdSense dollars moves up to the $3 to $10/day range. But I digress...)
Remember, your web site is more than just an AdSense money machine. It is more than just a blog. If you focus only on AdSense, you will probably get discouraged if you don't make a 5-figure income soon.
Are you prepared to write for two years, only to earn two AdSense dollars a day? If you can learn to look at it as just a bonus, then you will find other ways to derive income thanks to your web site or blog.
And to the person asking if it is possible to earn a 5-figure income via AdSense: If you mean 5-figure annual income, then yes it is possible. In fact, there are people earning a 4-figure monthly AdSense income on sites that have very few words. How that happened will be revealed in a subsequent post...
Here's to your success with your web site.
Remember that while the fastest way (i.e., $800 in the first four months of another blog's existence; details in a subsequent post...) for some beginners to make money online is via AdSense, there's a whole world outside the online advertising revenue model that's waiting for you. All you need to do is to think outside the computer every now and then, and act.
