Theme Redesign at CarlOcab.com
300 words | Last Updated: December 29, 2007 |
Carl Ocab recently redesigned his blog's theme (look and feel, not the content focus) at CarlOcab.com, and if you look closely, you'll learn quite a few things related to internet marketing (even if you're not a web designer).
In Carl's New Theme Is Out and It Rocks! post, you'll learn that he removed AdSense from his single posts, and opted to show AdSense only on his homepage, because that's where it performs best. This has inspired me to test a slight modification of his approach.
I was surprised to read that Carl only got 30 visitors via BlogRush, because while ManuelViloria.com only gets around 100 unique visitors daily, BlogRush has sent more than 182 visitors to this site:

(Hint: Don't give up on BlogRush.)
And lastly, while Carl redesigned his theme, he more or less stuck to the same color scheme to make his regular visitors feel at home. Definitely a smart move, because major web design changes have an unsettling effect on your regular visitors. By keeping your navigation similar to the old design, your online regulars will continue enjoying your site.
(Ever experience a layout change in your favorite supermarket? Drives you crazy, doesn't it?)
Carl talks about his success with Entrecard. More and more bloggers seem to favor Entrecard because, unlike their BlogRush experience, they're getting more new visitors now. I'm seeing the same effect with my Entrecard experiment, although traffic coming from BlogRush has been more profitable.
Should you redesign your blog? Ditch BlogRush? Try Entrecard? Focus on high traffic traffic? Or focus on revenue-generating low traffic?
Whatever you choose, the key is to experiment and constantly improve. Just like Carl Ocab.
