One way of improving your site's pagerank is to get some PR7 backlinks. Let's see what are the more popular high pagerank sites that site developers use.

KDE-Look.org (PR7) has a network of sites, and they have a high pagerank because they are an "online source of applications, themes, wallpapers, documents and support for Linux Desktop users."

Why does that translate to high pagerank? Popular techie sites tend to link to KDE because of the content that it offers to the IT crowd.

AnyBrowser.org/campaign (PR6) promotes the "Viewable With Any Browser" campaign. At the bottom of that page you'll find around nine paid ad links, and this service appears to be a favorite among site owners look for quick high pagerank backlinks.

There are other sites where you can get a backlink, but those are usually focused on a particular industry. True, they won't might linking to you even if your site's theme centers on a completely unrelated topic. It's much better, however, if the sites that do link to you are somewhat related to your niche topic.
