The Four-Figure AdSense Earner
660 words | Last Updated: January 8, 2009 |
Are you trying to make money online with AdSense? Have you seen a drastic drop in your AdSense earnings over the past few months? Are you despairing and losing hope and wondering if the financial crisis is driving away advertisers and frittering away your online earnings?
Well, let me tell you the story about the four-figure AdSense earner...
He is Marhgil Macuha, and he reports in his Make Money Online Philippines blog over at Macuha.com the various reasons for his recent blog hiatus. He got married recently and had gotten quite busy that not a few bloggers have wondered what had become of him.
In one of his early 2009 blog posts (Macuha.Com’s Second Year At A Glance), he reports:
...and finally, I am now a 4-digit Adsense income earner (that’s in USD!).
I assume he's now finally earning at least US$1,000 a month thanks to AdSense. I'm further assuming that's from three blogs. Why exactly is this amazing?
While 2007 saw the rise of regular blogs earning around $300 ~ $400 each month in AdSense dollars, these levels dropped to sub-$100 a month levels per blog in 2008 (or drops of anywhere from 20% to 60%). No, these figures do not apply to all blogs, but that's what my bubwits report from the field.
In the case of Marhgil, however, it appears that his blogs' AdSense performance has been recession-resistant. No, not recession-proof, but he has managed to write about topics that attract enough visitors to more or less offset the decline in AdSense earnings seen even by prolific bloggers (such as Leo, the Entrepinoy) who publish relevant content.
(To The Niche Bloggers: Yes, there is hope. Persevere like Marhgil Macuha and never give up! Notice how he used the "finally"? There's a not-so-hidden lesson in there...)
Marhgil's blogs also go against the popular advice regarding the number of ads to show (i.e., "fewer AdSense ads = higher online income"), because his site is filled with ads.
He has a horizontal ad link near the top, a Google search box, a 728 leaderboard, and a vertical links unit at the top of the right sidebar. When you visit a particular blog post, you'll also find a 336 ad box above his blog post title, another vertical ad link unit in the upper lefthand corner of the actual blog post (under the blog post title), and another 336 ad between the bottom of his blog post and the comments section.
I once asked him if he tried reducing the number of ads to see if he will earn more money online. He hasn't tried this because he does not want to risk seeing a drop in his advertising revenues. Well, now that he has finally reached at least $1,000/month I suppose he will all the more not try reducing the number of ads he displays in his sites.
Sure, some regular readers may wish Marhgil had fewer ads. But they still keep coming back to read his blog anyway. Yes, he breaks a lot of guru blogging "rules" but readers keep returning to his site.
So, how does Marhgil wildly succeed with AdSense? He chooses his blog topics well.
This is what profitable AdSense boils down to: Write about topics that people (whom advertisers care about) will want to read online, while getting tons of traffic from the search engines (SEO organic traffic thanks to well-earned backlinks).

Manuel, take a look at http://www.gohoster.com ... they just enabled adsense for content. very easy to use!
Hi there ! Thanks for the link! Great review on Marghil Macuha. You are right about Marghil Macuha. He is one of the blogging gurus out there who have a "contrarian" approach to traditional blogging methods and that is what makes his style very unique.
In our ebook we highlighted the advantage of "Guerilla blogging" over "niche blogging" but we did not see that "guerilla blogging" as "recession ressistant" ! Thanks for really pointing that out. We'll be sure to include that observation in the next update of our ebook.
Cheers and more power to your blog ! - Zigfred
Wow, nice artcicle, also if you have heard about the 6 figure earner, he is also one of the Gurus in blogging, you can find out of him on http://problogger.net
wow astig talaga si marhgil
$1k/month after 2 years is terrible, are you kidding?
And stay away from problogger and his kind, you will learn nothing there except how to be a sleezebag list marketer.
Is $1k/month after 2 years terrible? It depends on your point of view. If someone can experience online earnings growth while others in a similar field see their earnings drop from $2.5k/month to below $750/month, well... Like I said, it's relative.
Marhgil stuck it out, persevered, and succeeded. And in the Philippines, $1k/month is nothing to sneeze at.
Also, what do you mean by "sleezebag list marketer"?
Anyway, I get the impression that you're making more than $1k/month after two years, or you're making $1k/month after less than 2 years. If you have an ebook or membership site, please let me know so that my friends can sign up and learn to become rapidly successful like you. Thanks!
I checked the margihl guy's site, by the looks of it, his adsense account is probably smart priced and he has some terrible niches too. If you're trying to learn how to make money online, you should stay away from that noob, and the "make money online" niche.
His post about john chow made me laugh. Dot com mogul my ass, john chow makes money off of his readers while "teaching" them shit that doesn't work. he is an example of a sleezebag marketer. along with yaro starak. caroline middlebrook. darren rowse. I could go on and on. lol
You and your friends should learn SEO, start building yourselves farms, and start researching niches that you as a group can dominate. Stay away gurus like john chow or darren rowse or anyone that'll try to sell you shit. It all boils down to backlinks, and that is why you need your own farm.
This 1 site alone makes almost as much as mahrgil's 1k/month after 2 years, and this is barely 6 months old. Feel free to blog in this niche, it's a good niche. $2-3 clicks from this niche, and even higher in the niches I have on the sidebar. Way higher. Only works if you can get traffic to them though. Come compete with me on this niche

I know 1k/month is nothing to sneeze at in the philippines, I'm from there lol, but $1k/month that took you 2 years to achieve? That's a huge joke lmao.
If I told you how much I make per month you'd find it ridiculous and not believe me.
I didn't know this blog was from the philippines, I actually just stumbled upon it while looking for someone who got banned from adsense recently. Somehow found this, never even heard of that guy you were blogging about. 4 figure adsense earner. lmao
Anyway, bye lol
Thanks, Z. Are you a Filipino also? Anyway, it's nice to meet someone who has succeeded with the system used by Grizzly of How To Make Money Online for beginners.
Congratulations with your high earning, AdSense-monetized free blogs!
I hope you'll teach others how to find profitable niche topics. Grizzly seems to take the "write a lot and see which topics are winners" approach. I'm hoping yours takes a more laser-pointed approach. Thanks!
we make 700,000+ yr on adsense. nice coin, alot of hard work. and it a legit business not blackhat. your wasting your time if you think you'll get rich quick.
good luck 2 ya!
