Squidoo and Google Rank
302 words | Last Updated: February 9, 2007 |
With all the hoopla regarding Chris McNeeney's Day Job Killer, quite a number of people have built Squidoo lenses about DJK. And here are some findings on their positions in the Google search engine results.
Since most of them used the same title for their web page (Day Job Killer on Squidoo), Google returned one result, plus a bunch of supplemental results. Here's their ranking (which can change suddenly), along with their Squidoo lensranks:
1. #4646 (updated a week ago), ranked #75 in SEO and Affiliate Marketing
Supplementals:
2. #3693 (updated yesterday), #392 in Business
3. #409 (updated 3 days ago), #40 in Business
4. #715 (updated a week ago), #29 in SEO and Affiliate Marketing
What does this show? It looks like Google gives more ranking juice to Squidoo pages that were created recently. This gives hope to Squidoo lens builders who feel they've lost the first mover advantage.
Look at number 4 above, which was dumped in the supplemental results of Google. It has a high lensrank even if it was last updated a week ago. That makes it look like the oldest lens created among the four examples above.
Number 3 does look like an older lens, but since it was updated only 3 days ago, it's possible its lensrank was something like 1,100 (which makes it newer than example #4).
So here are your takeaway tips:
1. Build a Squidoo lens, even if someone already built a similar one weeks ago.
2. If your lens has a generic title, be prepared to be unseated by newer lenses.
3. Use a text module as the first module in your lens.
Happy Squidoo lens building! And if you spend too much time building lenses, that definitely will kill your day job.
