You've probably heard about how using online video can drive lots of traffic to your site. But what exactly is it about videos that unleash a viral flood of visitors to your blog? Should it be humorous, shocking, or mind-boggling? Well, it does not have to be any of those. You can also try Reality Video.

Reality Video refers to footage that isn't scripted. Or at least isn't highly scripted, that is. In photography, it's like the un-posed, candid shot. People captured right in the middle of their lives, unaware of the photographer or videographer.

Why is it appealing? It gives viewers that fly on the wall perspective. It's like you're there. Even if you're not invited.

Take for example professional videographer Buddy Gancenia, who seems to be focusing on the Philippine Weddings niche.

He offers different levels of Reality Video.

  • There's the basic take photos and video clips, then mix 'em up and add some background music.
  • Another package goes one step further and edits in recorded sound bites.
  • The complete package weaves in taped interviews of the people in the wedding video.

While you may notice favorite video effects or styles (such as 24's use of multiple scenes shown in one screen), you'll also see attempts to present the "usual" scenes differently.

For example, a shot of the wedding rings is more or less pretty standard in Philippine wedding vids. In the case of Buddy's videos, you'll see how he places those rings in different locations.

Otherwise, such videos will evoke the "yeah I've already seen that" comment.

I also like the way Buddy presents the "usual" bridal march: from behind, near the ground; from high above; at eye level (using two cameras).

So when you produce your online videos, try creating that "reality video" look. And use your creativity when showing everyday things differently.

Before you know it, when your online videos click with your viewers, high web visitor traffic will soon be a reality for your blog.
