If you're selling PDF ebooks or software, you can protect your product downloads from the prying eyes of the search engines. Yes, lots of internet marketers are leaving their product download pages wide open to people who know how to search via Google.

Thankfully, you can implement the following quick tip...

You can edit the robots.txt file (found in the root of your domain), and add the following lines:

User-agent: ia_archiver
Disallow: /

User-agent: *
Disallow: *.zip

User-agent: *
Disallow: *.pdf

The above lines tell the search engine robots (at least those which respect the robots.txt file anyway) not to index your ZIP and PDF files.

This way, if someone tries to check the search engines for any record of such files in your site, they'll come up empty-handed. And the great thing about this is, you did not have to purchase a copy of DownloadGuard (by Sam Stephens).

This is great for beginners, although you might eventually use DLGuard in the future once you have more downloadable products to offer your customers.

In the meantime, focus on creating your product and (especially in the case of Host4Profit Promo 1028 customers) have the techies assist you with copy-protecting your work.
