Do niche web sites make money? Are they worth your while? Well, the classic answer to that question is something you'll hear in a number of Econ 101 classes: it depends.

A niche website is a collection of web pages that provide information about a certain topic. Make that about a certain segment of a certain topic.

For example, How To Train Dogs is a topic.

How To Train Beagles is a niche.

How To Train Beagles in the City is an even more niche-niche. ;-)

So, what makes a niche website profitable?

1. Lots of people want to read about it.
2. Lots of advertisers want to be visible to the people in #1.

If you have those two ingredients, then the fastest way to make money online with this model is via AdSense. This assumes that your site gets a significant amount of traffic, though.

And even if you have visitors and advertisers, that is not enough to guarantee profitability. You still need to test, because not all niches which initially look like moneymakers will actually turn out that way. In addition, you don't know how long the popularity of a topic will last.

In other words, if you're the kind of person who is willing to experiment, who is willing to publish articles about a topic that may turn out to be a dud, then welcome to the profitable world of Niche Marketing.
