A lot of people are heavily promoting Rob Benwell's Niche Annihilation Method, an ebook that shows you the general blueprint Rob used when making money online using niche web sites.
Here are the different affiliate marketing tactics some people have done to promote Niche Annihilation Method...
1. Registered a domain name which contains "nicheannihilationmethod" (let's call this NAM spelled out)
2. Advertised in Google Adwords. Landing page is a review plus a bonus offer if people buy via the affiliate's referral link.
3. Created pages in Squidoo, Hubpages, and Yahoo! Upcoming.
4. Created a community (NAM spelled out) in MyBlogLog.
5. Posted reviews in their own blogs.
6. Uploaded a document in Scribd.
7. Created an Odeo podcast; used text-to-speech software to convert the written material into an automatic voice recording.
8. Posted articles in Zimbio.
9. Posted articles in Wikio (article contains a link to a Squidoo page).
10. Posted a note in ClipMarks (clipped note points to a Squidoo page).
11. Posted in RateItAll (although it looks like the post was later removed).
12. Use Odiogo (podcast). Entry contains text that leads to a Blogspot site.
13. Submitted a story at Sphinn.
14. Posted a press release at WebWire.
15. Submitted to the community news section of ShoutWire.
16. Submitted to Digg and Netscape (Propeller).
17. Posted entry in OnXiam. (Promoted a Squidoo page.)
18. Posted in Mixx. (With a link to a Squidoo page.)
19. Posted in HumSurfer, an Indian community news site.
20. Used BumpZee.
In terms of Article Marketing, people are submitting their essays to EzineArticles, NetMLMArticles, ArticleTeller, UPublish.info, TheLeadingArticles, ArticleBeam, ArticleRich, and about 20 other article directories (whew!).
Clearly, these highly motivated affiliate marketers are doing a lot of writing and posting all over the internet, as they go all out in promoting Rob Benwell's Niche Annihilation Method.
If you just like to blog, that's perfectly fine. But if you make the time to compete with all those other affiliates, then at least you know what you're up against.

This is a really exhaustive list- thanks for posting. I'd be curious to know the fail/success rate of this type of campaign. This is a huge time investment, so I wonder how many campaigns you could pull off without wasting a lot of time, especially just starting. Other than that, sounds like a sound plan to get started in affiliate marketing.
