Membernaire: Instant Membership Site
947 words | Last Updated: January 26, 2008 |
Jimmy D. Brown launches Membernaire, which shows you to set-up your own membership site in 48 hours or less. The information will be delivered to you via email each week, for the next 52 weeks.
Anyway, here's a quick 3-minute read on how you can set-up a fixed-term membership site...
Here are the basic steps (assuming you already have a domain name and a webhosting account):
Step #1: Write a salesletter that makes bold claims about solving someone's problem, and say that you will be coaching/helping your customers via a weekly email course which will be sent over the next X number of weeks. Describe the topics which will be covered in your First Lesson.
Step #2: Write a 2 to 5 page report (to represent Lesson #1) about your membership course. It can be about any topic that hopefully solves someone's problem, and ideally you must address the most pressing problems of your customers.
You main challenge here is to overcome procrastination. A 2-5 page reports sounds like a short and easy thing to do, but don't be surprised if the television set distracts you from this important activity.
Step #3: Post that report somewhere in your web site. You can create a webpage that talks about the report, plus a download link.
Step #4: Create an autoresponder sequence (perhaps via Aweber) whose first message thanks your customer for their purchase, and then points them to the webpage containing your first report.
Step #5: Set-up an online payment system (i.e., Paypal) that allows you to charge customers a recurring monthly fee. Since this is going to be a Fixed-Term membership, you can configure Paypal to automatically stop billing your customers at the end of the term (i.e., 6 months).
Step #6: Adjust your Salesletter's link to the Order Page (or the Paypal payment page). Paypal can generate the Order Button for you, which you will simply copy/paste into your Salesletter or your Order Page.
Alternatively, you can set-up your payment system at Clickbank, so that you can make use of the built-in affiliate program. The more people/affiliates promote your membership course, the better for you.
Step #7: Market/promote and drive traffic to your salesletter. [This is going to be the most challenging part of this entire process, actually.]
By this point, you will already have your Membership Site in less than 48 hours. Please take note, however, that having a membership site and actually having members plus content to deliver to them requires more than 48 hours.
Step #8: Get ready to write your succeeding weekly 2-5 page reports once you start getting subscribers. (Or you can go multimedia and package your information in the form of online videos.)
Here are some observations about Jimmy D. Brown's Membernaire:
- 52 weeks seems like a long time.
- This system does away with expensive membership scripts.
- A course outline or syllabus of the entire 52-week Membernaire program would be helpful.
- I wonder why Jimmy Brown didn't put an Opt-In Form in his Membernaire site. (See Internet Marketing Model)
- What if the customer is interested only in a topic that will be tackled starting Week #40?
Hmmm... come to think of it, this system can be used to deliver PLR content to site members. Which means you need to make Week #1 content about as important as Week #52 content, to make your customers happy throughout the entire course.
So, if you have Content and are thinking of spreading the delivery of that information over a certain number of weeks, check out the 12-month "Start A Membership Site" training program offered at Membernaire today!

"Membernaire: Instant Membership Site"
First Posted: January 25, 2008 | Filed in: Make Money Online

Hi Manuel, what a wonderful model this is!
I have 2 quick questions i'm hoping you can assist me with.
1. How do you protect the articles from being passed around to others as pdf's?
2. If say you want to launch one of these ftm sites and offer short 2 minute movies as your content, again, how would one protect members from sharing these?
Thank you and look forward to your reply.
Kind regards,
Tony
Hi Tony! You can protect PDFs with certain PDF-protection programs. You can also package movies in copy-protected ebooks. Just be prepared for the increase in customer support, particularly when your customers forget their passwords or have problems activating their ebooks online.
I'll be publishing a post about content and copy protection in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Manuel,
You make some excellent and valid points here.
I am a member of Membernaire and don't intend cancelling my membership because I already run a membership site and value Jimmy's knowledge and the course.
I have a site showing people how to set up and market their wordpress blog and I'm using a combination of video, audio and articles but, I just added the sequential content as outlined in Membernaire, but I do it on a monthly basis. Why? I can still add elements of marketing in the members area, but I give much more detailed information in the monthly report. If people took 1 marketing strategy per month, implemented and tested it, they will have 12 solid strategies over the next 12 months.
Basically Manuel, I've tried to incorporate the best of both worlds by having a membership area, teleseminars and soon webinars and, giving away sequential information on a monthly basis.
I must admit, when Jimmy D Brown launched Membernaire, I wished I had seen this before I launched my membership site a few weeks ago but for exactly the reasons you've outlined in your video, I'm glad I didn't although I am finding Membernaire and excellent and valuable resource.
Thanks Manuel,
Trish
Thank you for the wonderful tip, Trish. A membership site that contains a combination of an instant library plus info by installment makes it a win-win situation for both the site owner and the member. The remaining challenge lies in creating evergreen content, so that people still find it relevant 12 months down the road.
In the meantime, I'll go take a break from membership site building and read your How Many Blogs Should You Build post.
