Listbuilding Experiment
|
Are you hesitant to try building a list of subscribers? Sometimes, that’s the natural next step for bloggers. Here’s where you’ll find the on-going results of a listbuilding experiment.
Before You Begin
Here’s what you need before you start listbuilding:
1. Ten to fifteen short email messages. You’ll need to pre-write these short two-paragraph messages, which will be automatically delivered to your list subscribers every X number of days. This way, when you need to broadcast a certain message to your list, they won’t be surprised to hear from you because they will have gotten to used to receiving a message from you every so often.
2. A giveaway, such as a free PDF ebook. This will help entice people to subscribe to your mailing list in the first place. Afterall, why will they enter their name and email address in your sign-up or opt-in form?
3. An email autoresponder service. I’ve tried installing an email autoresponder script on my own webserver in the past, and that simply confirmed that it is better to outsource your autoresponder needs to people who are more focused on that particular service.
4. Send traffic to your opt-in pages. How will people subscribe to your list if they don’t know it exists? Buying traffic for this purpose might not be as easy as before, because Google will lower your page’s quality score if they see that you’re just driving traffic to an opt-in page.
Here’s a tip: Use your blog’s existing web traffic.
On-Going Results of the Listbuilding Experiment
There’s a multi-topic blog that gets around 900 visitors daily, and I wondered what would happen if this highly untargeted traffic will be invited to join a list.
The result: Three sign-ups per day. (Remember, this is based on untargeted traffic, meaning the offer has nothing to do with the actual contents of the blog entry.)
Please don’t be too discouraged if your list only grows by 2 to 5 people each day. That’s at least 60 new subscribers a month, or 720 people a year.
That’s 720 people who will receive your weekly email messages, and who will probably visit your web site (assuming there’s a link to your site at the bottom of those messages). They will go to your site not because they found you in a search engine, but because they found you in their Inbox.
If you want to increase your repeat web site traffic without relying too much on search engines or PPC (Pay Per Click), then build your list today!

Although untargeted subscribers will get you sales, responsive targeted subscribers will get you more sales.
One good way to get targeted subscribers that will buy products from you is to use PLR products that you can sell for $7 to $10 dollars. You can find sites to buy these for about $7. They come complete with websites and are usually targeted to a niche.
Drive your targeted traffic to those sites and your list will be built from people who don’t mind spending money as opposed to Freebie Seekers who are out just looking to collect free products.
As you said use your autoresponder to provide good targeted content and when you have something to offer your customers won’t mind spending the money.
One last tip is when the prospect buys a higher priced product have him signup for your update list and you will now build a list of even higher quality leads.
Sincerely,
Glen Barnhardt
