List Building Trends

Have you noticed recent changes in the way marketers build their lists?
Before, you are brought to a "Thank you for subscribing" page after you submit your Name and Primary e-mail address. Nowadays, you are brought to any of the following:
1. A salesletter page of a single-price product being sold by the list builder.
2. A salesletter of a double-price product being sold by the list builder (Pro price and Standard price)
3. A salesletter of a product created by someone else (the list builder is engaged in referral or affiliate marketing)
4. An invitation to subscribe to other mailing lists.
Looks like people are capitalizing on Captured Attention.
After a person subscribes to your list, you already have their attention. That's probably the best time to offer them something, since you already have their attention.
Then again, some people will focus on building a relationship first, and will hold off on making any offers until after the second or third email follow-up.
But there are groups that will not only offer you something on what used to be a "Thanks for subscribing" page, they'll hit you with an offer right on the first email you get after you subscribe.
Again, you'll need to do some tests, such as testing your subscribe page.
For example, ViralMarketingChemistrySet.com has not 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, but 6 test pages the last time I looked.
Bottomline: Build your list. Don't just rely on the present model of building web sites and earning advertising revenue. Don't just rely on search engine traffic or pay per click campaigns. Build your list.
(But first create something worth offering to your subscribers, to help entice them to subscribe in the first place. A free report, an online video tutorial, or something that's unique online.)
