Ituloy Angsulong and Yahoo Inlinks
404 words | Last Updated: November 7, 2006 |
Here's what an SEO contest revealed regarding Yahoo!'s treatment of nofollow links, and how a site serendipitously took advantage of it.
Leading the ituloy angsulong contest is http://www.ituloyangsulongseoph.com (as far as google.com.ph is concerned)
It also appears that Google.com.ph has indexed only one page from that site. And yet the site ranks number 1 for the phrase "ituloy angsulong"?
What can we learn from Jem del Carmen's site? He's not using Wordpress. He's using Photonblog, a homegrown PHP/MySQL app.
I wonder if that unique application makes ItuloyAngsulongSeoph.com stand out in a sea of Wordpress-powered sites.
A quick check for backlinks via Yahoo shows 104 inlinks, a lot of which are coming from VinnyLingham.com.
If I click on the various cached copies, I couldn't find any link to ItuloyAngsulongSeoph.com from Vinny Lingham, until I found one which showed a link under the "Recent Comments" section in the sidebar.
The weird thing is, the link contains a "nofollow" tag and yet Yahoo lists it as an inlink. Plus, it was just in the sidebar and not in the body of the page's article.
It kind of makes you wonder... do "Recent Comments" sections increase the number of inlinks captured by Yahoo? Since "Recent Comments" only display the most recent X number of comments, that helps explain why cached copies of those inlinks no longer show the link.
As for the other inlinks (i.e., those coming from TheDigitalPinoy.com), they're paid links via the Adbrite network. (Correction: It's not an Adbrite ad. It was just a regular text link placed near an Adbrite link.)
In summary, here are the quick lessons in building inbound links or inlinks:
1. Post valid comments in blogs with "Recent Comments" in the sidebar.
2. Advertise.

hey, I'm just looking around. I never knew I had linkbacks from some seo blog. I suppose that's the power of blog syndication. I'm kinda new in SEO btw. As for the links from thedigitalpinoy.com, that's made to look like an adbrite ad. Remember that adbrite is run by javascript, and javascript links don't get indexed. ^_-
[From Manuel] Hi, Bloodred! So, it's just a look-alike adbrite ad; not a real adbrite ad. For a while there, I thought Yahoo! explorer could understand javascript...
