Is Listbuilding Just A Dream?
582 words | Last Updated: March 4, 2008 |
Listbuilding is among the instant make money online solutions being offered nowadays. Just put up an opt-in form, get people to subscribe, send them several emails, and then presto, they will buy whatever product you recommend in those emails.
It is just another affiliate marketing dream. Fortunately, you can turn it into reality...
You've probably heard about Yaro Starak, and how he has earned a lot of commissions thanks to his affiliate marketing efforts. You've also probably heard the saying: "The money is in the list."
No wonder people sit up and listen when someone offers an instant listbuilding solution (remember Affiliate Silver Bullet?)
Here's how to evaluate these email list services:
1. Number of Follow-up Messages. When you see a system that gives you pre-written email follow-up messages, go ahead and count them. Typically, it takes 7 to 9 emails before the marketing message sinks in. Some marketers have even built 52 weekly email message autoresponders, so that they can continue marketing to their subscribers for an entire year.
Yet most of the pre-written messages we see offered for sale on the web contain 3 to 5 messages only.
2. The Product Being Promoted. Would you buy the product being promoted? If not, how likely do you suppose your email subscribers will go out and get that product, just because of a series of pre-written follow-ups?
Check out the salesletters of those featured products, and try to sense if your target market will whip out their credit cards and buy that ebook or software.
3. The Price of the Product. A number of the instant listbuilding programs feature products that are in the $97 price range. How likely do you think your site visitors will sign-up for an email series, and then purchase that almost a hundred dollar ebook?
Fortunately, there are some products priced below $47. You'll have a better chance of success when it comes to marketing those ebooks via your email autoresponder.
(This assumes that the people who sign-up for your list are first-timers. If they're used to buying ebooks left and right, then you can still succeed with those $97 products.)
4. Double Email Lists. Will your email series send your readers to a web page which offers yet another opt-in form? When your readers subscribe to that second list, they'll be receiving even more messages about that same product.
5. Age of the Product. If the product is quite new, you can expect people to search for the product name in Google. And guess what they will find? That's right, they'll find those product review pages.
Let's be clear about this: They'll find web pages. They won't find your email series.
People who know the product name and are searching for it online are on the brink of buying that product. They will not patiently wait for your email series. And if they do subscribe to your info-by-installment messages, they will have also subscribed to other similar lists.
In summary...
If you're going to use these ready-made follow-up messages, go for those series which promote the following kinds of products:
- Priced below $47.
- Salesletter page does not contain an opt-in form.
- Product launch was at least 3 months ago.
In an upcoming post, we'll tackle email marketing and listbuilding tactics. In the meantime, please continue adding posts to your blogs. You'll need it, as you shall soon discover...
