Is AdSense For You?

Is Google AdSense for you? Marhgil of Macuha.com lays down a set of seemingly strict standards which will help you determine whether or not you can succeed with AdSense. Here are some results of an experiment that says otherwise...
In Marhgil's Google Adsense Is NOT For Everybody, he says that:
...you need at least 667 pageviews a day just to earn a dollar a day (if your CTR is 3% and your average CPC is 5 cents). If you want a monthly payment from Google Adsense, you need to earn at least $100 every month. And to achieve that, you must at least earn $3.33 per day, which can only be achieved if you have 2200+ pageviews per day.
Scary, right? Fortunately, there are blogs which attract only 70 to 87 visitors a day, yet average around $53 each month in AdSense earnings alone.
If you put up two of such blogs, then you'll hit the $3.33 daily target (with a combined traffic of about 160 visitors and 217 pageviews each day).
That's what I like about the internet. You can try your ideas and get different results. You can apply certain principles in seemingly similar situations, and still get extremely different results.
The important thing, however, is that you TRY.
If someone says "this" won't work, try it out anyway. You might get surprised. Besides, the internet gives you an affordable way to test your ideas.
There was one experiment where two web sites had the same layout, the same ad placement, similar traffic levels and visitor profiles, similar traffic quality and source, and similar content (in terms of the theme, not the actual words).
And yet, their AdSense earnings differed by as high as 2x. Why was one site earning twice as much as the other? I still can't figure it out. But it's a good thing the site owners gave their ideas a try. Otherwise, they wouldn't have doubled their advertising revenues.
So, is AdSense for you? If you're the kind of person who wants to diversify your internet income sources, then having listbuilding, viral marketing, direct ad placements, affiliate marketing, direct sales and AdSense in your multiple sources of income model will help your internet business or hobby thrive in the rapidly changing online marketplace.

I wonder what niche blogs are those. my point there is that if your CTR is 3% and CPC is 5 cents and you don't have that much traffic and you don't want to work it out, then Adsense is not for you. Most blogs don't have that much CTR and CPC. Of course, if your blog has a higher CTR and CPC, then, you'll just need less traffic to get the $100 per month.
Thanks for sharing your views regarding the matter. It's good that readers see two sides of the story.
I'll update my post put a link to this one.
That's true, Marhgil. It can boil down to a CTR and CPC numbers game. It helps to discover which low-traffic niche topics make AdSense worth your time.
AdSense can be worthwhile. As you say one of the great things about a web site it is very easy to try out different strategies to bring in some money. One thing to note is that experiments with small traffic are pretty unreliable. Just one person choosing to click on ads can make one blog or ad program or... seem like it is superior (when in reality it was just luck).
You're absolutely right, John. That's why small traffic experiments require longer run times, to help reduce the possibility that the performance was just sheer luck.

Thanks for the info, Dexter. May I know where in your blog we can find those comments?
Good arguments. Blogging is very open and there could be as many possibilities as there are bloggers when it comes to getting the most out of adsense. Then again, there are alternatives to it.
[From Manuel] Speaking of alternatives... I hear a number of Pinoy bloggers are going to shift to these alternatives in 2008.

Hi.
I've been blogging since 2004, albeit not regularly. After much nudging from my sister after reading your success in Adsense, I decided to apply for an account (even though I personally hate ads). Too bad though, I couldn't get through this stumbling block: Adsense requires me to enter a State: I tried Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines, NCR, National Capital Region, Ilocos, Ilocos Norte, Cavite, MM, Metro, etc. But it always rejects each input, saying there's no such state/province in the country (Philippines). Any solutions? Much appreciated if you'd reply by email. Thanks.
