Got inspired by Armand Morin's video about the Internet Marketing Model, and came up with this 7-Step Internet Marketing Model in text and image format. If you're planning to make money online using the direct sales approach, here is the step-by-step blueprint you can use...
Here's the Internet Marketing Model Flowchart:

1. The Opt-In Page. Yes, this is quite "demanding." No homepage, no nothing. Just an opt-in page. Enter your name and email, and subscribe to the mailing list first, before you get to see any other page in the site.
People who are willing to share their name and email address are more committed than those who just click away.
Want to see an example of a site whose homepage is an opt-in page? Please see Internet Marketing Explained.
2. The Salesletter. Here's where you use your copywriting skills and get people to buy your product. This contains an attention-getting headline, list of benefits, testimonials, a satisfaction guarantee, and the Order button which leads to...
3. The Order Page. In some sites, the Salesletter page will contain an "Order Now" button that leads your reader straight to the credit card online payment processing page (i.e., Paypal, Clickbank). If you place an Order Page in between, however, you can still offer an Upsell.
When people click on the Order button, that means they are more inclined to buy the product you described in your Salesletter. So, why not offer them a chance to upgrade for just a few more dollars, right? That's what the Order/Upsell page does for you.
4. The Payment Page. This is where your customers type in their credit card information (i.e., Paypal or Clickbank payment page).
5. One-Time Offer (OTO) Page. After they pay, you can send them to a One-Time Offer page. An example of an OTO is a Resale Right (RR) which allows them to resell your product.
What makes this an OTO? You can offer an RR license, which you normally sell for $47 (for example), for a one-time extremely low price of just $27.
The OTO page should contain a link that leads customers straight to the product they originally bought, if they are not interested in the OTO. An example link could contain words like: "No, thanks. I'm willing to pass up on this one-time offer forever, because I am just interested in the Basic Product..."
Now assuming your customers are not interested in the OTO...
6a. Post-Sale Opt-In Page. Instead of just giving your customers a download link, offer them a chance to subscribe to your Customers-Only mailing list. This is different from the first opt-in page (the one that replaces your site's homepage), because the members of this list are people who have bought from you.
Please remember, though, that some customers do not like to join the list. One way of handling this is to use an Order Processing System that will automatically email your customer either your file (as an attachment), or a link to where they can download your product.
Anyway, after your customer opts-into your mailing list, you can bring them to...
7a. The Download Page. Your customers can download your product from this page. If you're selling a PDF file, include in your ebook an invitation for the reader to join the Customer-Only mailing list (just in case some of them did not subscribe in Step 6a).
Also, you can offer Resale Rights inside your ebook, only this time the cost is $47. This way, your customers know that the next time you show them a One-Time Offer, they will be better off if they avail of it.
Now Steps 6b to 9b essentially follow the same procedure for your basic product, only this time they relate to your One-Time Offer (OTO).
And that's the flow of direct sales on the internet.

6a & 8b are very good ideas. Very good way to invite the normally one-time buyer into a client.
