With 7-megapixel digital cameras becoming more affordable, it's so easy to take lots of huge (in terms of filesize) photos. While these may be print friendly, their large size can hamper your photoblogging efforts.

Having large photos means you'll have to wait longer before you can upload them to your site. It also means your site visitors will wait before they can see your images... or they might just click away.

The key command here is: Image - Resize/Resample

Here's how to resize your photos using the free software IrfanView.

You can download a free copy of IrfanView at IrfanView.com

Most of your photos will be 2048 pixels wide. For your blog, please resize your photos to a width of either 400 or 320. Or narrower, depending on the layout of your blog. Take note, however, that as your photos become narrower, they become less noticeable.

After you've resized your photos, please save them under a different filename.

You don't want to overwrite your original photos, because you're going to use the large filesize photos when you have those printed.

The smaller sized ones are just for the web.

After you've resized your photos, you can now add those photos to your WordPress posts.
