You've been blogging for quite a few posts now, and you're wondering how to spruce up your site. One way is by adding photos to your posts. Before you learn how to add photos to your WordPress posts, however, please review how to resize your photos for a pleasant photoblogging experience.

Done with the review? Let's add photos now.

When you log into your WordPress blog and Write a post, you'll find an "Upload" section beneath the box where you type your article.

The Upload section allows you to choose a file from any folder in your hard disk.

The key points to remember are the settings "Show Full size" and "Link to None." For search engine optimization points, it also helps to type in text which describes your photos, because search engines aren't able (yet) to appreciate what your photos look like.

Other people prefer to display a smaller version of their photos, so instead of showing full size photos they opt to show thumbnails. When they do this, they choose "Link to File" so that when visitors click on the thumbnail, they'll see the larger version.

For example, here's a thumbnail. Please click on it to see the larger version. You can click on the "Back" button to get back to this tutorial.

How did you feel after you clicked on the above image and viewed the "full" version? Let down? If you're going to provide a thumbnail, please make sure the large version is large enough. For example, the width is at least 600 pixels wide.

Otherwise, if the full version is only slighly larger than the thumbnail, people will feel that they wasted their time clicking on it, because they were not rewarded with a significantly larger view.

Here's a thumbnail whose full version is 600 pixels wide. In this example, however, we're linking to the image's page, rather than to the image file itself. As usual, please click on the "Back" button to get back to this tutorial:

To make life simple, size your photos in the 320 pixel to 400 pixel wide range. Display the full size, and "Link to: None."

Finally, here's an example of showing a non-clickable full size version:

If have have lots of photos in your post, you might choose to go the click-thumbnail-view-large-version route. If you only have a few photos (i.e., less than four), you may prefer the show-full-size alternative.

And at long last, here's how to upload photos in WordPress:
