John Chow has a popular blog at JohnChow.com, yet his site does not appear in the Google search engine results when you search for "John Chow." Looks like John has caught the ire of certain people.

If you have a blog that looks like YourFirstNameYourSurname.com, but when you Google your full name your site does not even appear in the first page of the search results, then you have been John Chow-ed.

His pages are still in Google, but when I search for a unique sentence found in one of his posts, he either appears as the last entry on the first page (if there's only one page of results), or doesn't seem to appear at all.

SELaplana offers Four Lessons from the Google Bombing Experience.

What does this tell me? All our efforts to make our sites more visible in the search engine results can vaporize at the flick of a button...

...unless we somehow convince readers that our pages contain something useful. Or am I being too naively white hat-ish?

TIP: Spend more time producing content than changing the look of your site. Publish more posts rather than obsessively tweak or overly optimize your blog's code. And lastly, encourage your readers to be less evil, lest you find yourself John Chow-ed.
