No, that’s not a typo. And neither is it CamStudio. You can now get Camtasia version 3.12 (from Techsmith) for free. Here’s how…
Step 1: Download Camtasia 3.12 (trial version)
Step 2: Register your Trial Version
Et voila! You’ll have a working copy of Camtasia… for FREE.
Before you go off and upgrade to Camtasia 5.0 for $149 (full price is $299), I suggest you get a trial version first of Camtasia 5 and see how it performs in your computer.
For most of your needs, however, Camtasia 3.12 will serve you well. Yes, there may be a few bugs such as the redirect/endless loop, but if you plan to make straightforward screencasts or online video tutorials, then this is the product for you.
Besides, screencasts that autoredirect your viewers to some affiliate page is so 2005.
You can use Camtasia to demo a software, teach someone how to use a program, or simply go through a PowerPoint presentation. You can record your voice, so it will be as if you were there in the same room as your viewers.
If you’re into real estate, you can use Camtasia plus PowerPoint to display photos of the property you’re selling. Still photos, plus your voiceover, will help your prospect decide if they will contact you for site tripping.
It’s a great way to save time and money, don’t you think? And it works even if you don’t have any videos. Plain photos will do. In addition, it will also load faster.
You can even save the presentation onto CDs, for distribution to key prospects.
What do you think? Try Camtasia today!

Hi,
Thanks for this free version. I will download and try it. Btw. does this version allow to publish commercial tutorial videos?
Thank you,
Regards,
Vijayrajesh
I sent an email to TechSmith a few days ago asking them if the free version may be used for commercial purposes, and they haven’t replied yet.
Unfortunately in “Step 2: Register your Trial Version” I get the following message from the Techsmith site:
Thank you for your interest in Camtasia Studio
Due to an internet-wide leak of the Camtasia Studio 3 software that was intended exclusively for PC Plus readers, this offer has unfortunately been withdrawn. However, we encourage you to test out a free 30 day copy of the latest version, Camtasia Studio 5. Thank you for your understanding and interest in TechSmith.
