Disqus is a web-based commenting system that allows you to put together in one place all your comments posted via Disqus. This means that even if you leave comments in 10 different blogs, as long as those were posted via Disqus, then you can have a single page that summarizes all those threaded comments.

And here's how this will help drive more traffic to your site...

When you create a user page at Disqus, you'll notice that you can provide a link to your blog. You can even edit your Bio, and also include links to your other blogs.

The convenient thing about your Disqus user page is that as you post comments, or as people reply to those comments, your user page gets updated. When a page gets updated often, then search engine robots will usually visit it regularly. And since your user page can contain links to your sites, then...

Well, you get the picture. ;-)

I installed the Disqus WordPress plugin, and perhaps that's what helped fill-up the ManuelViloria.com Community Page on Disqus. Something bothers me, however, about this set-up.

I'm not ready to give comment control in this site to the Disqus threaded comment system. In fact, I've just disabled the plugin. Perhaps I'll use Disqus more in other sites (especially those which need more traffic, or which do not necessarily use WordPress).

If you're using Blogspot, or even if you have a static site, then you might want to give Disqus a look and see if you can gain some SEO benefits while the dofollow goodness lasts.

Here's another benefit: You can create a new thread from within Disqus itself. In some way, it's as if you have your own online forum (even if the script does not reside in your webserver).

In the meantime, I'll have to decide if (over the long run) I will stick with the built-in WordPress comment system, or completely migrate to "I hope they can scale" Disqus, or experiment and have fun with the instant forum angle.
