I got a highly affordable set of ebooks for reselling purposes. Okay, make that cheap rather than inexpensive. After opening a few bundled PDFs, I found out why the set of 10 files was going for just $5. Argh.
I got suspicious when I opened one PDF file and saw that it contained 19 pages. Plus, you can even brand the PDF file with a link to your site, so that the ebook also helps promote your site. At $5, that's just 50 cents per ebook. Why so cheap?
Well, it turns out it was a copy/paste project. For example, I found a copy of Jenny Gill's Celebrate Birthdays at Disneyland article in one of the bundled PDFs. The sad part about it is there was no attribution made to Jenny Gill.
The site selling these PDF ebooks did not make use of high traffic blogs to get the word out. They promoted their "special report" via a mailing list.
What lessons can you gain from this?
1. Some people hide duplicate content in zipped PDF files.
2. A highly responsive mailing list can outperform a content-filled blog.
3. Bundling your PDFs with branding and resell rights will help sell your product.
4. You get what you pay for.
Will we see a spate of private label ebooks in the coming weeks? That wouldn't be surprising. There may be a few who will actually take the time to write (or at least rewrite) articles and bundle those into ebooks you can resell. It will take a while to find those high quality products, though.
In the meantime, beware of cheap ebook resale rights. You might be setting yourself up for a costly lawsuit. (By the way, I am not a lawyer.)

Hahahaha....
Lesson#5...learn from other people's experience!
(more of a next-gen lesson, ie, your readers)
It could have been better if they collated ALL the free articles they can get, bundle into one pdf and sell it cheap, just for the bundling alone...they may all be scattered everywhere and you can get it free (because it IS free) but what's sold here is the collation in one single file, with table of contents, of course.
Hi Ikaw Yan, =)
Yes, that would've been convenient. Now if only there were a more reassuring way of knowing whether an article posted online is really free, or if it was just copied from some web site. Oh well.
