558 words |
You've probably read about John Reese's BlogRush widget, the promise of high traffic to your blogs, the disappointment, the disillusion, and the eventual removal of the BR widget. If you're thinking about doing the same, please don't be too hasty.
Yes, BlogRush has resurrected!
Waitaminit. Does that mean you're now getting more visitors? Well... no. Not significantly. The CTRs are quite low, and have not improved that much since September 15, 2007.
So, what's so great about the low BlogRush CTRs? What's wonderful is that with the below 0.2% CTRs, you'll be able to immediately spot which blog post titles attract readers. Yes, it becomes that obvious.
Imagine, in a sea of 0.2% (or lower) CTRs, posts which get 0.3% or even 0.5% will quickly catch your eye and give you invaluable insight on the click-through habits of readers.
You will see how CTRs rise and fall, and where they'll eventually settle, and how a slight tweak in blog post titles can as much as double your click-through rate.
Yeah, but traffic from BlogRush is still too low, right? You're absolutely right. So please don't focus too much on dreaming about a flood of traffic, then. Instead, you need to find a way to make those few clicks count.
BlogRush does not deserve the virtual real estate I give it. Time to delete the widget. Wait, wait... Please. Let's not be too hasty.
If you look at your stats, BR does give you some amount of traffic.
So, wouldn't it be fair to reward BR for that traffic? You can display the widget on pages that do receive BR traffic.
That way, when non-BR traffic flows to those select pages, you'll receive some BR credits. Those BR credits, on the other hand, will help drive some amount of BR traffic back to those select pages.
Okay... But I've racked up a gajillion credits already! I don't care about earning more BR syndication credits. In that case, you can program WordPress to display the BlogRush widget only to people who clicked on over to your site from another BR widget.
Yes, you can directly "reward" BlogRush only for the traffic it sends you.
Fine. But how do I make money online with the help of BlogRush? You'll need to understand the market of BR widget clickers. Find out what they want, find the people who can give them what they want, then get those two groups together with the help of affiliate marketing.
In one experiment, traffic from BlogRush generated $1.26 for every thousand BR impressions. So if another blogger (with about 10,000,000 BR syndication credits) gets his syndication credits fully served, that's a revenue target of $12,600 from affiliate marketing alone.
But I only have 186,000 BR credits. Okay, that translates to a potential $234, then. As they say in the Philippines: Saan mo pupulutin iyon? (Where will you find $234 on the ground?)
Bottomline: Please reconsider BlogRush traffic. Rethink where and how you will display your BR widget. Otherwise, you're just leaving money on the table.

I'm on the 3rd week of trying blogrush on my blog, results so far wasn't very outstanding, but nevertheless - You just put it and leave it.
Where did that experiment came from by the way Manuel?
Hi, Carl! That was an experiment conducted by a Pinoy blogger.
