Hi Sir Manuel... I am HelloWorld and I never thought you'll be able to trace me. LOL. Thanks to IP addresses.

Asus eeePC is good gadget but I really don't think that Xandros is a suitable OS for a 900mhz and 512mb RAM machine. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Xandros is using a modified KDE desktop environment which I read is kinda a CPU and memory hog compared to Gnome or XFCE desktop environment.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 6 (Gnome) right now on an IBM ThinkPad R30 (celeron coppermine 800mhz, 768mb RAM) and it still a bit sluggish.

Catch you up one of these days via exchange. ;-)

Hi Manuel

I have the same problem with .AVI on Linux (Ubuntu). My walk around is to install a diffrent player like vlc or mplayer. The default media player fo ubuntu, Totem, is also better using totem-xine plugin instead of totem-gstreamer.

If you're still playing with your eeePC, you can try to insall Xubuntu on it. Please see this link http://eeepc.tumblr.com/post/21408625 and here's a nice article about it http://fullcirclemagazine.org/2008/02/28/issue-10-released.

Thanks for the useful tip, Angelo. I'll ask the salespeople about that recovery DVD. I tested the unedited, straight from the MMC/SD .AVI on Linux (Asus Eee). The same .AVI plays and sounds all right on a regular desktop running WinXP.

Thanks for the link, Manuel. Asus bundles in a recovery DVD, so you can always reinstall the Xandros Linux bundled in with the unit, as long as you have a USB optical drive. If Xandros is still intact (meaning the UnionFS partition is untouched/unchanged), then you can revert to factory settings by pressing and holding F9 during bootup.

Re the .AVI problems maybe it's the audio codecs used. Did you test it on Windows XP or on Linux?
