Adsense and WP Themes
204 words | Last Updated: August 2, 2007 |
Abe's Adsense income dropped by 40% after he changed the theme of his WordPress-powered blog. He switched from a 2-column to a 3-column theme, and even added more ad units.
Yet his ad income dropped significantly.
Was it just a coincidence? Is it just a seasonality issue because it's now August? Or does the theme have something to do with it?
Here are 500-pixel square screenshots of the old (left) versus the new (right) themes at Yugatech.com, reduced to 200-pixel square images. Please look at them, and then think about why his ad income dropped by almost 40 percent.

Although the link colors look similar, the link colors in the body of the post (in the new theme) are a shade lighter than that of the old theme. In addition, the new theme's post title has a larger font size.
Perhaps these factors are making the 468-pixel banner ads less noticeable. What do you think?

yes, it's because the ad is not noticeable already.... if yuga really wants to increase back his earning, maybe it will be better to use the Square ad floats at the right of the post.
however, i understand from his post that he better earns like that than losing visitors.
I checked the number of visitors online, it seems na nag-increase from less than 100 online visitors before to 100+ online visitors after the implementation of the new theme
I really think it was the additional sidebar. Gives casual visitors more links to click.
Looks like all that remains is to test, test, test.
Just included AdSense in my blog last week. I'm going to follow your posts on AdSense - it looks like I will learn a thing or two from your takes.
It will help a lot if your site is getting at least 100 unique visitors a day. Otherwise, you might feel discouraged with the initial results. At any rate, thanks for dropping by!
