What happens when you have more than one kind of online advertising system on your site? Will Project Wonderful, for example, eat up your AdSense earnings? Or will things end up well for all your ad revenue sources?
Check out this eye-opening tale of online ads, plus some tips on how you can find a happy balance...
In Macuha.com's Project Wonderful's Effect on My Google AdSense Earnings, Marhgil reveals how a $0.20/day Project Wonderful revenue cost him $5/day in AdSense earnings.
How did Marhgil find out? He monitors his site and his earnings.
It's not surprising, actually (thanks to the power of hindsight).
Aside from the more attractive nature of Project Wonderful ads (125 x 125 graphical squares, versus AdSense text ads), the position of his row of 5 PW square ads commands a stronger eye-catching position on his web page.
His adjustment? Cancel the PW ad that was affecting his AdSense performance.
Here's my suggestion and tip, though: If AdSense will perform well on a page, then don't display distracting PW ads.
It makes sense, doesn't it? You need to diversify your sources of income, yet you need to strike a balance and prevent the lower-earning sources from interfering with the higher-earning ones. You also need to automate the monitoring and adjustment process, so that you'll have time to do other things.
How can you tell when this unique AdSense maximum earning pattern will happen, without having to spend a lot of time manually monitoring things?
- When do you display AdSense ads?
- When do you display Project Wonderful ads?
- When do you display both?
- How can this be automated?
Well that specific Tactical AdSense/PW Balancing Technique (which requires a tiny bit of WordPress programming) is part of the AdSense Coaching Program I was offering for free to a group of 600 lucky people.
What amazes me, however, is how out of 600 people who gladly shelled out $67 to $97 for an AdSense-related product, only one is interested in the free coaching program. Perhaps this is a case of "don't offer valuable information for free."
So here's what...

I did not notice it during the Valentine's day because there are so many visitors and the CTR was high. Only after when the traffic went back to normal that I saw a very low CTR on my Adsense ads on that blog. I'm planning to give it one more week, and if the CTR did not improve, I'll reposition the PW ads somewhere on the left sidebar, a little farther from the Adsense ads. I'll keep on testing until I see a perfect balance. I don't want to give up the PW ads yet on that blog.
Thanks, Marhgil! You might consider creating AdSense channels: GA only, GA with PW near, GA with PW far. That way, when you rotate the different versions, you'll be able to rule out the possibility of timing/seasonality.
