After writing the Three Way Links post, I decided to do an analysis of 3WayLinks. Here are some observations and tips.
It isn't that difficult to find at least one site participating in 3WayLinks. From there, it's easy to simply hop from site to site. With the help of free online tools, you can easily view the PageRank of the various sites.
Here's a sample of the links found in a PR5 site participating in 3WayLinks:

Based on this one site, we can see that participating sites cover a wide range of topics: Health, Finance, Marketing, Beauty, Cars, Magic, Gardening, Hobby, Travel, Hosting, Personal Development, Webhosting, Watches, Audio, Dogs, Ebooks, Blogging, Insurance, Real Estate...
TIP: Study the nature of your site, and see if it makes sense to link out to such a wide range of web sites. If your site covers many topics in general, then your links page may make sense.
If you're basically a Travel site and your links page looks like "Travel Resources", how would you explain a link to a site about Magic? Oh, you're a travel agent for magicians? Okay... what about Gardening? Ah, eco-tourism...?
Anyway, getting back to the example, we find one outbound link to a PR5 site, a few PR4 sites, more PR3 and PR2 sites, a bunch of PR1 and PR0 sites, and links to a lot of sites that don't even have PR yet.
TIP: Find out which site owners are interested in exchanging links (such as those who are participating in 3WayLinks), and narrow your list to those sites which are related to yours. Get in touch with them and see if you can come up with a win-win arrangement for your visitors.
I found some sites whose link pages were crammed with links to sites not participating in 3WayLinks. Makes you wonder what kind of pagerank juice your site is getting in such a sea of links.
I also noticed that some PR5 or PR6 sites had links to certain "special" web sites. I wonder what criterion was used to determine what sites a PR6 would link to. Is it truly random?
TIP: Find out which sites the PR5 and PR6 sites link to, and if those sites complement yours, then get in touch with those linked-to site owners. Yes, even if their sites have low or no PR.
And that's my quick and simple analysis of 3WayLinks. Makes you wonder what Google with its funds and technology can do when it comes to detecting 3-way links, right?

This post was July, what do you make of it now?
The results have been mixed, Tony.
Some of the sites now have higher PR or the same PR that they had in July, others have lower (down by one step). Some of those linking out saw their hundreds of listings in Google crash down to just 3 listed pages. Other sites, on the other hand, increased their listings in Google.
