100 BANS Sites
555 words | Last Updated: May 12, 2008 |
According to Vic Franqui of BloggerUnleashed.com, one way of making money on the web quickly is by building BANS sites. These are eBay stores that are focused on a particular niche, and the goal is to get people to visit your BANS site, and then get them to visit the product page in an eBay store. You earn via commissions or sign-up fees.
Vic recommends you get to work ("Work, work, work... That's the way it is!") and build 100 BANS sites. Here's a quick step-by-step guide, because it's quite a challenge to go through all those videos of Vic and patiently pick out the basic steps...
Step 1: Join the eBay Partner Network. After you get accepted...
Step 2: Review the eBay Categories, and write on a sheet of paper the categories which you think will involve the exchange of a fair amount of money between two groups of people. If you're wondering what's popular in eBay, then visit http://pulse.ebay.com
Step 3: From the categories you've chosen, visit the related eBay pages and check the product prices. This will give you an idea of the amount of money that could exchange hands.
Step 4: List down 100 domain names containing the general category word of the market you're interested in, followed by dot info. For example, if you notice that a lot of people are selling blue BrandX hip wallets in eBay, your domain name would look something like LotsaWallets.info (just an example), and not BrandXHipWallets.info
Step 5: Sign-up for Reseller Hosting at Hostgator (US$25/month)
Step 6: Register 100 dot info domain names at GoDaddy. There's a sale where you can get .info domain names for only $1.19 each ($0.99 + $0.20 ICANN fee). Total cost is $119 for the first year.
Step 7: Set-up website accounts in your Hostgator Reseller Account, for each of the .info domain names you registered in the previous step.
Step 8: Get your own copy of BANS (Build A Niche Store) software/scripts. (US$97 one-time fee)
Step 9: Set-up your BANS sites for each of the domain names you've registered.
Step 10: Add unique content to your BANS sites and gain backlinks also.
And that's the basic outline of the step-by-step blueprint for creating 100 BANS sites. In upcoming articles, you'll find tips on how to save time and avoid the typical mistakes made by people putting up Build-A-Niche-Stores for the first time.
IMPORTANT TIP: Excel is your friend. Whip out that spreadsheet and keep track of your 100 domain names, web host account username and password, eBay category and campaign IDs. It would be a good idea to find a friend who is OC enough to help you keep track of those 100 web sites.
Please don't be intimidated by the amount of repetitive work required. If the majestic pyramids were built one stone at a time, then succeed with BANS by focusing on one step at a time. Good luck!

I like BANS. I only have 4 BANS sites at this point but I can't just make a site and then leave it without doing some optimizing.
I think that adding content to BANS sites is extremely important but knowing which categories to add the content to is vital. So those setting up BANS sites should be checking to see what categories and products have sold and which had the most bids.
I also think that this should be done over time, and not in one sitting. This gives the search engines something to chew on and a reason to return.
I plan to create a new BANS site a week if I can keep up with that and my other non-BANS sites. Then once a month I will go back through them and add content to another category or two.

Or sometimes you just need to experiment and take your chances. I've seen some niches which remained quiet, and then suddenly burst into economic life! I'll try your approach in other BANS sites (revisiting previous sites to add content). The sample sites of Vic don't give me the impression that he will return to add more content (unless, of course, those sites start earning).

How do people come across the BANS to link with the ebay catorgories. Are they marketed?
You will need to do a fair bit of search engine marketing, so that people will know about your BANS sites. As far as SEO goes, you will also need to add more content to your BANS pages and not just simply list the same content found in so many other BANS sites.
